I ATTENDED a Taylor Wimpey session at the Holiday Inn regarding their plans to build some 1,200 houses along Perryfields Road, this coming hot on the heels of the proposal for 490 homes in Whitford Road which was recently turned down, although I understand the developer is already appealing against this.

With grandiose plans for the roads around Bromsgrove, Taylor Wimpey still seem to miss the point that, whatever they do, they are still presented with the bottlenecks that are Fox Lane and Hanover Street.

The Kidderminster Road is already badly congested during the morning and evening and the proposals in their plan would do nothing to alleviate this as far as I can see and a further 1,700 homes would only add to the problem.

You also have to ask the question, can the existing infrastructure of schools, doctors, dentists, hospitals, etc cope with all the additional people?

Surely if it is intended to build all these houses, then plans to improve current facilities should be put in place now and not as an afterthought.

Also, once these houses are built, the town can forget any hopes of a western bypass, which it really needs.

Let us hope that common sense prevails because once this is done, it cannot be undone and Bromsgrove will live with the congestion for years to come.
