Taking issue

7:10am Thursday 11th March 2010

I have to take issue with Mike Brown’s condescending response to the Alvechurch correspondent who suggested that affordable housing was funded by the council tax payer.

The trees will die

7:00am Thursday 11th March 2010

Dear councillors, if we don’t have any recycling in All Saints Road the trees will die.

Good Samaritans

I should like to thank the young men who came to the rescue and helped me up when I fell coming out of Droitwich shopping centre.

They are pirates

7:00am Wednesday 10th March 2010

How I agree with Mark Anthony about the asset stripping which has been going on in this country.

Most impressive

7:00am Tuesday 9th March 2010

I am writing to say how impressed I was by the event on February 4 at the Artrix at the start of lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans (LGBT) history month and how proud I was of Bromsgrove for hosting it. There was an interesting networking opportunity preceding the showing of the classic 1985 film My Beautiful Laundrette. Many organisations had put a lot of effort into creating an interesting display in the foyer and upstairs at the Artrix. Display tables were staffed by the West Mercia Police positive action outreach team, Bromsgrove library, the fire service, the Bromsgrove Council diversity team and the Gender Trust, to name but a few, advertising their resources and inclusivity.

Why the tax hike?

7:00am Tuesday 9th March 2010

The Local Government Association announced recently that the average council tax rise in April will be 1.6 per cent.

Confused by Tory stance on crime

3:03pm Monday 8th March 2010

Bromsgrove Tories, with some guidance from their London-based leadership and under by-election rules, have at last produced a candidate to stand in the forthcoming general election to replace the town’s disgraced MP.

Fast food fears

3:04pm Monday 8th March 2010

IN reply to disgruntled Catshill resident regarding yet another restaurant/takeaway in this vicinity, we agree with everything in their letter. We did object to the original planning application and also the appeal lodged by Mr M Stowe. We sent our objections, together with those of all our neighbours, regarding smells, parking and the fact that there are already six food outlets in very close proximity to the planned venue, to the planning inspectorate at Bristol. We received no acknowledgment of our objections and were not even told of the decision – we were informed of this when we rang the council having seen the present notice.

The facts don’t add up...

9:30am Friday 5th March 2010

AS to the ongoing fiasco regarding Bromsgrove’s Market Hall, I have to take issue with Cllr Roger Hollingworth's statement that a minority are standing in the way of progress despite the rest of Bromsgrove residents wanting the regeneration to go ahead.

Why destroy this?

9:20am Friday 5th March 2010

FOR years, Bromsgrove District Council has been promising to attract upmarket shops to the town centre.

Local campaigns

9:20am Friday 5th March 2010

I WAS glad to see that a council officer and the High Street market traders in Bromsgrove took a strong stand against having their market marquees used for political propaganda by self-styled local campaigners.

Find us a local!

9:20am Thursday 4th March 2010

I FEEL it necessary to go into print again, this time regarding the selection of parliamentary representatives for Bromsgrove.

Short listing

9:20am Thursday 4th March 2010

B PARKER makes a valid and thoughtful comment about short-listing candidates for our future MP.

Right call

9:20am Wednesday 3rd March 2010

HERE’S proof there are some decent people about in Bromsgrove as I would like to thank the local taxi company called 577777 Taxis for handing in my son’s mobile phone which had fallen out of his pocket whilst he was using one of their taxis at the weekend.

9:23am Wednesday 3rd March 2010

FURTHER to the recent report on the funding crisis looming for the CAB in Droit, I would like to make plain to readers alternative proposals from the Liberal Democrat Group at Wychavon for this year's budget.

Long service

9:24am Wednesday 3rd March 2010

FOR 125 years Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association Forces Help (SSAFA FH) has made an unfailing commitment to the men and women of Britain’s Armed Forces. We believe that their bravery, dedication and loyalty deserve a lifetime of support. Since 1885, we have adapted to meet the needs of those who serve in our Armed Forces, those who used to serve and the families of both. We continue to help 50,000 people each year, providing them with a combination of practical, financial and emotional support.

Backing Fairtrade

7:40am Tuesday 23rd February 2010

Thanks to everyone who signed the Fairtrade Bromsgrove petition at the Oxfam bookshop and various churches. The council’s overview and scrutiny board considered it in January and, with a healthy majority, decided to make recommendations to cabinet.
