FAIRFIELD Villa got their Midland Combination Division One campaign off to a winning start with as they beat Greenhill 2-1 on Saturday as Aston 3-1 on Tuesday night.

Against Greenhill, Villa went a goal down after a defensive lapse after 20 minutes but rallied in the second half with their dominance converted into goals.

Captain Steve Frost got on the end of a deflected shot before Lewis Cosgrove scored a late headed winner.

Their attentions now turns towards Saturday’s home league clash against Stetton Eagles (3pm kick-off).

Fairfield have traded victories with Saturday’s opponents over the last few years with both sides honours even last season with one win each.

Last year was relatively a poor one by Fairfield’s standards, however, before that they couldn't be accused of inconsistency as they finished fourth for the previous five seasons and Oakes is hoping for a return to that position.

Manager Paul Oakes said: “After finishing fourth for five years in a row and having a decent cup-run in addition to that every year, where we finished last season was unacceptable, and we’re looking for an improvement on that.”

Meanwhile, Droitwich Spa opened their Division One campaign with a 2-1 loss to Aston.

They now take on Feckenham away tomorrow night (6.20pm ko) and then entertain Greenhill on Saturday (3pm ko).
