THE year four and five team from St James’ Catholic Primary School in Rednal have been crowned the All-Birmingham football champions.

Following victory in the Kings Norton District competition and then the South Birmingham qualifiers, the boys, along with six other schools from across the city, proceeded to the All-Birmingham finals held at St Laurence School in Northfield.

In a tense final against Lyndon Green School from Yardley, St James’ proved too strong and ran out 4-1 victors, lifting the trophy and becoming champions for the first time.

Teacher and head coach Andrew Griffin said: “I was extremely proud of all the boys in the team.

“They played with skill and passion but, more importantly, a fantastic attitude.

“It is a tremendous achievement for our school when you think of the hundreds of other schools from across Birmingham who entered this competition.”
