SALLY Hogan put in a stunning display to win the gold at the Tipton Games.

The Bromsgrove and Redditch AC runner stormed to victory in the women’s under-20s 2,000-metre steeplechase in eight minutes 5.2 seconds, 38 seconds ahead of her nearest rival, at the club’s first outdoor event of the season.

However, Hogan was not the only BRAC member to taste success at the Tipton Sports Academy.

In the under-11s boys section, Lewis Byng gained a gold medal and a personal best in the 75-metre sprint with 11 seconds.

He then went on to win the 150m sprint with another PB of 22.5 seconds and then topped his day off with another gold medal in the long jump (3.70m).

Ashleigh Beavan, racing in the under-15s, was joint 10th in the 100m, ninth in the long jump (3.88m) and finished her day by throwing 13.84m to come sixth in the javelin.

Candy Lockett threw a personal best 16.71m in the hammer to claim silver, while 6.82m gave her fifth place in the shot putt.

She then set a personal best of 17.51m in the javelin to come fourth and took silver in the discuss (17.75m).

Heather Knight, on her BRAC debut, set a new PB in the high jump (1.25m) to take bronze. She also set new PBs in the discuss (14.59m, fourth) and long jump (3.42m).

In the under-15 boys competition, Oliver Kemp ran in the 100m (13.5) and threw a season’s best in the javelin (24.05m, fifth).

In the under-17s girls competition, the club was represented by Geordan Edmonds who threw a PB of 27.59m in the javelin to win silver.

There were also a number of successes in the under-20s women’s competition.

Izzy Billau was in fine form, grabbing gold in the javelin (29.07m) and triple jump (10.64m) as well as coming fourth in the 100m (13.2), while Daisy Johnson gained a silver medal in the 100m (13.0).

Julie Wakelam won bronze in the senior women’s hammer (25.91m) to set a new PB, came third in the discus (19.02m) and fourth in the javelin (21.40m).

Sam Lloyd won silver in the shot putt (8.63m) and then went onto get a gold in the discus with a season’s best of 27.67m, before finishing her day with a gold medal in the javelin with 31.36m Richard O’Connor set a new PB in the senior men’s hammer (29.86m) to win bronze, gained a PB and silver medal in the shot (9.14m) and ended his day with silver in the discuss (28.64m).

Sam Cater won the hammer (33.48m), took silver in the javelin (45.02m), gold in the shot (10.84m) and finished with a season’s best in the discus to earn bronze (27.91m).

Young athletes then took part in the Birchfield Harriers Open Competition at Alexander Stadium.

Byng set two new PBs, earning silver in the under-11s 75m sprint (10.77) and winning the 150m (21.68). He went on to gain a silver medal in the long jump (3.86m).

In the under-13s, Joshua Pearson ran PBs in the 100m (14.12) and 200m (29.36) and came third in the long jump (4.17m).

In the under-15s, Lockett won the triple jump (9.19m), discuss (19.74m, PB) and was fourth in the shot (6.99)m.

Beavan was third in her heat in the 100m sprint with a season’s best of 13.88 seconds, came ninth in the long jump (4.15m) and finished sixth in the javelin (13.71m).

Andrew Pearson was fourth in his heat of the 200m with a PB (27.63), came fourth in the 800m hurdles (14.46, PB) and came sixth in the long jump (4.44m).

In the senior men’s group, Richard O’Connor set a string of PBs, gaining second in the shot (9.17) silver in the hammer (35.57m) third in the discus (30.54m).
