Spa have bite taken out by Lions

First published in Sport

DROITWICH were edged out 10-3 by Stourbridge Lions in a tight affair on a rainy and wind swept Saturday.

The visitors had the elements in the first period and attacked the Droitwich line.

But excellent tackling by forwards James Thomas and Alex Saddington kept them at bay before some poor organisation in midfield allowed Stourbridge to score a try.

The rest of the first half was a scrappy affair with both sides struggling to cope with the vicious driving rain.

The second period saw Droitwich up their game with Sean Walker kicking well to gain territory, earning a penalty which Tom Wormingtom duly converted.

Rob Poke drove Spa forward and linked well with Russ Brown to create a scoring opportunity, but the young side couldn’t quite string the final passes together to find the score.

Spa, who are second from bottom, have an important game at fellow relegation battles strugglers Dunlop on Saturday (kick-off 2.15pm).
