THE society’s year got off to a rousing start with a talk by Sylvia Beardshaw covering her researches intomanyof the names of The Boys on the Board, to be seen in the porch of the parish church.
This lists most of the men from the village who went off to fight in the Great War of 1914-1918.
Aided by photographic slides of a selection of these men, and often of their families, Sylvia talked of their lives and what happened tomanyof thosewho returned.
Backed by a wealth of detailed research, Sylvia’s talk brought to life thismomentousperiod of the history of the village and the events which shaped it.
Audience participation was particularly rewarding, with manypeople remembering and recounting events from their own families.
All who attended found this a most interesting and well presented event.
