IN July, members were able to sit outside for their coffee morning at Webbs when the president brought along her grand-daughter and an American lady she had recently met.

In early August, a garden party was held at Gill’s and again the weather was reasonably kind.

Apart from a wonderful selection of cakes and scones with jam and cream there was a raffle, a sales table and book sales which helped to boost funds. Many thanks to Gill and her husband for allowing about 60 people to hold this event in their home and garden.

For the August meeting, which was organised by members, the speaker was Caroline from Millinery Creations, who has been in Droitwich High Street for almost two years.

She spoke about the history of hats and how the fashions have changed over the years from metre-high creations, hats with stuffed animals and feathers for decoration in the 17th to 19th centuries to smaller hats such as cloches in the 1920s and the current trend for fascinators.

Many fashions in hats have been inspired by the Royal family over the years.

Caroline makes hats for all occasions including Royal Ascot as well as mother of the bride/bridegroom.

Members presented the committee with “favours” to thank them for their work during the year as well as supplying the refreshments which included more cake.

The next meeting is on September 18 at 7.30pm in the Methodist Church Hall, Worcester Road, when members will be hearing about pub signs in Worcester. New members welcome.
