EXTRA postmen were being drafted in to deal with an avalanche of mail generated by the General Election.Morethan40,000 polling cards had been delivered in Bromsgrove and staff in the town centre’s sorting office were expected to handle 50,000 election communications before the election on June 11.
Ã BROMSGROVE’s largest employer, Garringtons, lookedset to fill 12apprenticeships for school leavers with helpfromthe Advertiser/Messenger.An appeal had been made in the previous edition for school leavers to consider a career in the engineering industry after an initially poor response. But days after the appeal the firm had received a big response, including calls and letters from interested parties, in taking up an apprenticeship.
Ã BROMSGROVE Rovers were dealt a major blow after losing out on a place in the country’s fifth division.
The Victoria Ground had been assessed and passed by league bosses to stage GM Vauxhall Conference football.
Staff and manager Bobby Hope had been preparing for football in the division, but it had emerged that Fisher Athletic had been successful in an appeal after their ground had originally been rejected. As they finished as champions and ahead of Rovers, the London club would take the Bromsgrove’s club’s place in the division.
