Ever considered turning to massage therapy when you are ill? Most of us wouldn't consider massage as a source of relief, however it can have a very calming and cleansing effect on the body if the right method is used.

It is a known fact that some massage treatments can exaggerate the effects of drugs or alcohol and will generally cause a cough or cold to come out further. It is for this reason that most massage therapists will refuse to treat a person who is not well unless they have a letter from the Doctor stating they are okay to be treated, however with Manual Lymph Drainage this is not necesarily the case.

Manual Lymph Drainage (MLD) massage is a treatment very few people appear to have heard of, it is however,  a very effective treatment.
MLD is commonly used to treat eczema, rheumatoid arthritis and asthma to name a few. It is also a great treatment for children during the winter months when coughs colds and tummy bugs are doing the rounds as it has a very calming effect and speeds it through the system.

Manual Lymph Drainage is a gentle treatment which consists of  rhythmical movements of the skin which stimulate the contraction of the                              lymphatic vessels, as a result of this movement excess fluid is removed from the body’s tissues and into the lymphatic system, once in the system it becomes lymph; as it travels through the system it is cleaned of bacteria, dead cells and other waste products and returned, in its cleaned state to the blood stream. Because of this cleansing effect MLD is also beneficial pre operative as it cleans out bacteria and dead cells, therefor cleansing the body and post operatively it clears out excess fluid and speeds up the healing process.

In short, if you are suffering from Eczema, Rheumatoid Arthritis or asthma, recovering from surgery or awaiting surgery MLD is most definitely worth looking into. Treatments normally last around an hour and for children a little less, you will leave feeling relaxed and calm, there is no pain or discomfort involved. However, I can't promise it won't send you running to the loo every five minutes, but this is all part of the cleansing effect so panic not.
