CHAMPION powerlifters of all ages from a Kidderminster gym are celebrating after achieving records results in a national tournament.

Competitors from Unique Fitness Gym, in Mill Street, came home with World, European and UK Records from the British Powerlifting Championships, held in Manchester last month.

They also proved that age is no barrier to success with a teenager and a pensioner scooping impressive titles.

Rob Todd, aged 69, who was competing in the under-110 kilograms for the 65-69-year-old category, set world records for his deadlift and bench and a British record in his squat.

While 17-year-old Blythe Edgar came home with British records in all three lifts, squat, bench and deadlift in the under-67.5kg for 15-17-year-old age group.

Audra Corbett, who is manager of Audra’s Unique which is part of Unique Fitness, set world records in both her squats and European records in bench and deadlift.

The 48-year-old, who was in the under 75kg section for 45-49-year-olds, also won the overall best lifter award and was presented a trophy for first place in the Masters Women's category.

Former British Olympic weight lifter Don Coates set world records in bench and deadlift for the under-100kg in the 50-54-year-old age group. He also got second place in the Overall Best Lifter in the Male Masters Category.

Competition debutant Carrie Simmonds won a bronze medal in the under 56 kilo open age category.

Unique Fitness owner Steve Knight, who was also competing in the event in the 100kg category for 40-44-year-olds, has also recently awarded second place in the over-40 section for the whole of Great Britain at the UKFBB British Body Building Championships.

Audra said: “We are delighted with these fantastic results and very proud to have achieved all these records.

“This proves that Unique Fitness is the home of champions – of all ages!”
