FROM the writer of War Horse, comes a story exploding everything we thought we knew about the D-Day landings.

Theatre company Kneehigh’s The Amazing Story of 946: Adolphus Tips opens its first UK tour at Birmingham Repertory Theatre from October 6 until October 15.

This is an exciting production that tells the little known story of the rehearsal of the D-Day landings, and of the 946 people who were killed during ‘Operation Tiger’ at Slapton Sands in Devon in 1944.

Lily Tregenza, her family and her cat Tips are trying to live normal village life in the midst of World War II.

After being bombarded with evacuees from London, village life is halted as the American GIs come to train for the D-Day landings.

Lily and her family are evacuated themselves but Tips gets left behind.

Brave and determined, Lily sets out to rescue tips, looked after by black American GI Adolphus ‘Adi’ T. Madison.

Her village has transformed into a warzone and Tips is nowhere to be seen. It feels like it couldn’t get any worse for Lily and her family, but when Germans strike the training fleet, their world gets turned upside down all over again.

The show uses music, puppetry and a unique brand of craziness to tell this tale of war, prejudice and love.
