BOSS Alan Solomons is weighing up when to give wing Ed Fidow his Worcester Warriors debut – but he insisted: “We have got to get the timing right.”

Fidow arrived back at Sixways from the Rugby World Cup in Japan two weeks ago but was not in the mix for last Saturday’s trip to Northampton Saints.

Solomons said the Samoa star who joined Warriors from Provence this summer, was “under consideration for Sunday’s home clash with Exeter Chiefs (3pm).

But Solomons admitted there was also a chance Fidow could instead be lined up for the following weekend’s Gallagher Premiership match at Harlequins as the 26-year-old continues to “get to grips” with the team in training.

“He is under consideration,” said Solomons when asked whether Fidow was in the reckoning to face Exeter.

“We have just got to get the timing right for Ed, so if it’s not this week then we will look at next week.

“We will see how we are tracking.

“He is getting involved, getting some reps in during the practices and the coaches are working with him.

“But I want him to be comfortable in our systems before he plays.”

Fidow featured in all four of Samoa’s World Cup matches, scoring twice in their win over Russia, before flying back to Warriors.

“He has got to get to grips, particularly with the defensive system,” Solomons said.

“He was with us for the first month (of pre-season) when we had a conditioning block and then he went off to Japan with Samoa.

“He is working really hard and is making good progress so hopefully we will see him on a match day sooner rather than later.”

Solomons said he had been given a “selection headache” after Marco Mama recovered from the concussion that ruled him out of the 35-16 defeat at Northampton.

It means fit-again Mama, Ted Hill, Sam Lewis, Cornell du Preez and Gerrit-Jan van Velze will all be gunning for the three spots in the back row.

“Marco should be good to go this weekend,” Solomons said.

“We have got Ted, Sammy and Cornell who played on the weekend and GJ and Marco.

“You have got five quality loose forwards there so it is a selection headache but it is a good headache to have.”

Solomons said lock Andrew Kitchener (hand) remained sidelined but had no new injuries apart from scrum-half Francois Hougaard.

“Kitch is out running on the field at the moment so hopefully he will be back next week,” Solomons added.
