WORCESTER Warriors ace Ted Hill has won his first senior international cap after featuring in England’s victory over Japan at Twickenham.

The 19-year-old flanker came off the bench for the final five minutes as England bounced back from a 15-10 deficit to win 35-15 on Saturday.

His England debut adds to a sensational season for Worcester-born Hill who only made his Premiership bow for Warriors in September before establishing himself in the first-team with a series of try-scoring displays.

The celebrations started on the Warriors’ team coach on the journey home from Bath and at Malvern’s Spring Lane ground when Hill ran onto the field at Twickenham.

Hill played his formative rugby at Malvern, where his father Vince is a former captain, and he is a regular visitor to the club as well as being coach of their Colts team.

Hill is the 37th player to win a full international cap while with Warriors but the first from Malvern player to achieve the distinction.

On the victory England head coach Eddie Jones said: “It was a fantastic experience for us.

“I was really pleased with how well Japan played, they got stuck in.

“We wanted a game that tested us, we put out a different team, playing different combinations to see how players would combine in different positions.

“We probably got seduced by the try in the first few minutes, scoring an early try, players sub-consciously think it’s going to be easy and we knocked off a little but I thought our second half response was excellent.

“We just had to up our attitude and effort, and tweak a couple of technical things.

“The score was 15-10 at half-time, they had 80 per cent possession, 65 per cent territory and eight penalties to one so we were actually in a pretty good position at the break considering that and we just had to find the right way to play in the second half and we did that. Japan are a difficult side to play against if you haven’t played against them.

“The way we responded pleased me. We played like England in the second half, I can only recall Japan getting in our 22 once in that second period.

“The stats of the first half were probably reversed.”

Elsehwere, wing Josh Adams was an unused replacement in Cardiff where Wales trounced Tonga 74-24.

Hooker Joe Taufete’e won his 18th cap for USA in their 31-5 victory over Romania in Bucharest.

Taufete’e started the match and was replaced midway through the second half
