VOCAL lock Pierce Phillips says Worcester Warriors’ upbeat players are looking to keep singing their rousing victory song.

Warriors visit Leicester Tigers in the Premiership Cup on Saturday (3pm) on the back of a run of five wins from the last six games in all competitions.

The first rendition of this season’s song that features the lyrics ‘We are the Warriors, the mighty Worcester Warriors’ came at Welford Road in late September when they stunned Leicester 44-37 in the Gallagher Premiership.

Since then it has been sung after successive victories over Bristol Bears, Stade Français, Ospreys and Sale Sharks.

“We had a song last season but it just took us a while to sing it so it didn’t really catch on,” Phillips said.

“Some of the boys wrote this one. It is a bit of a daft thing but it is fun and the boys enjoy getting into the changing room together straight after games.

“It gets everyone excited and keeps everyone together. It’s one of those where if it sticks, it sticks and will hopefully be around for a long time but if it doesn’t, it doesn’t.

“This one seems to be quite fun. I imagine we will go with it this season and we will keep singing it as it is a good laugh.

“If enough boys want it to happen next season then it will keep going.”

Phillips, who is more used to calling lineouts than singing songs, said he reluctantly stepped forward to be lead vocalist after their past two victories.

“The guys who would normally take control of it weren’t in the changing room so I just opted to do it,” continued the 26-year-old.

“Hopefully I am not stuck with it every week but I did it again last Saturday. It’s just a bit of fun.”

Warriors’ upturn in form has seen them climb to seventh in the league, go top of their European Challenge Cup pool and get off to a winning start in the Premiership Cup.

Phillips, who is not involved on Saturday, said he and his team-mates were in buoyant mood and determined to make “grinding out” victories a “habit” at the club.

“In the 18 months I have been here there has always been a very good atmosphere,” said Phillips who joined from Jersey Reds in the summer of 2017.

“There were some tough times last season and some changes that can unsettle things.

“But there are very good senior guys who are experienced and know how to keep things tight.

“When the results are starting to go your way it just improves that and gives you confidence knowing that you are going in the right direction.

“We are very pleased to be building momentum and that’s something we want to continue in all competitions.”

Warriors’ lineout struggled at times in last weekend’s 35-3 triumph over Sale Sharks but Phillips is not overly worried with the performance of the set-piece.

“There were a few errors from ourselves as a forward pack with the deliveries,” Phillips added.

“But I think some of that comes down to a little bit of rustiness and some combinations that have not been together for a few weeks.

“We know that we are in control of that and it’s something that will improve week by week throughout the whole season.”
