THERE is a “big buzz” at Sixways ahead of the arrival of lock Michael Fatialofa according to Worcester Warriors flanker Sam Lewis.

Fatialofa is set to begin life at Warriors today after making the move from New Zealand where he starred for Super Rugby giants Hurricanes.

The 26-year-old helped Wellington-based Canes win the title in 2016 and secure back-to-back semi-finals in 2017 and 2018.

This year also saw Fatialofa clinch the Mitre 10 Cup with Auckland.

Lewis said he and his team-mates were relishing the chance to see what the 6ft 6in forward can bring to the party.

“There is a big buzz around the group as we are looking forward to having him here,” Lewis said.

“I have heard a lot about him and hear he is pretty skilful.

"You have got to be as a New Zealander so we are looking forward to seeing him today.

“We are in a good place at the moment due to the competitiveness of the group so he will just add to that, bring his own play to the side and put us in good stead.

“I also hear he is a big guy and calls the lineouts so I am sure he will be a great signing for us.”

Pierce Phillips, Anton Bresler, Darren Barry, Andrew Kitchener, Justin Clegg and James Scott have been battling for the two second-row slots.

But Bresler has welcomed the addition of Fatialofa to Warriors’ pack.

“It’s awesome for the squad,” Bresler added.

“He will add so much more depth and competition.

"I think everyone can learn from Michael and it is going to help with our rotation system so we can keep boys refreshed.”
