BULLISH boss Karl Gormley is showing no nerves ahead of “the biggest game” of his Worcester Raiders tenure – a title showdown with Darlaston Town (1874).

Something must give when the two unstoppable forces in West Midlands (Regional) League Division One collide at Claines Lane on Saturday (2pm).

Second-placed Raiders have not dropped a stitch in the league since August, a 16-match winning run that has prevented leaders Darlo from having the crown and solitary promotion sewn up.

Darlaston, on an eight-match winning run of their own, will kick off with a five-point lead at the summit but have just seven games left to play – four fewer than Raiders.

That state of play means victory in the date with destiny is arguably of greater importance to the visitors but Gormley insists his side, which has 30 goals from its past six outings, will be going for the jugular as usual.

“I have been here three years now and it is definitely the biggest game I have been involved in,” said Gormley.

“There is a buzz about the lads, I have never seen them so up for a game and we just want it to be here as soon as possible now.

“We want the lads to play as they have all season but that can be difficult in games like this and there is only so much you can say to them.

"In fairness we have performed in the bigger games so far, though. The better the opponent, the better we seem to play.

“We have followed their results but don’t want to worry too much about what they are going to do, we are just going to concentrate on our own game. If we play like we can we are confident we will beat them.

“It is more of a must-win game for them but if we can take the three points it will take the pressure off us big time.

“There is only one way to go out and that is to win games. There is no point going out to draw or be cagey, we will try to take it to them from the start.

“We have goals in our team, we know we can score and if we keep them out we will win the game.”

The exemplary form shown by Raiders has provided selection headaches all season and none bigger than this one.

“Everyone is fit and raring to go and it will be a difficult team to pick,” Gormley added.

“All of the lads want to play and have been on our case. Unfortunately we will have to upset a few but to be fair to them all, they have been as good as gold in that respect.

“We have swapped it about in every game to keep them all interested, no one has been sat on the bench every game.

“They know we can only play 11. There have been a few hints dropped, though!

“We will pick a team to do the job, that’s all we can do and if we keep winning the lads will be happy.”
