ANGLO-WELSH relations went from strength to strength after Worcester City Youth’s two youngest age groups hosted Newtown.

The inter-club day saw under 10s and under 11s sides meet for friendly fixtures at Perdiswell.

Links between the clubs were established in the summer and Newtown’s under 10s visited Worcester in September for City’s inaugural football festival.

There are plans for matches for other age groups in the future.

The girls’ under 10s reached the Mercian Fortis League Plate Cup final while the boys’ under 12s recorded an emphatic 11-2 victory over Birmingham St Georges.

City’s under 13s and 14s suffered home defeats to RTC North Somerset in the JPL League Cup.

The under 15s maintained their unbeaten JPL Elite League start as they beat Cirencester Town 1-0 with a Jack Hobbs free-kick.

Two goals from Matty Patrick-Rivers gave the under 16s the perfect start at Kidderminster Harriers before the hosts stormed back to win 4-2.

Patrick-Rivers was also on the mark in normal time and struck the winning spot-kick as City progressed to the Midland Floodlit Youth League Cup semi-finals against Gloucester City on penalties.

Captain Christos Gabriel scored the first goal as his side came from behind twice as the game ended 2-2 after normal time.

Sean Dayus saved the hosts’ first penalty before all of City’s takers held their nerve to clinch the 5-4 shoot-out success.

City's reserves beat Knowle 3-1 in the Midland League Reserve Division with Dave Reynolds (2) and Hassan Shah scoring.
