TOP of the table Bromsgrove bid to take a giant stride toward this season’s Midlands One West title on Saturday when they entertain second-placed Newbold on Avon at Finstall Park.

The Boars approach the game holding a significant seven point advantage over their Warwickshire rivals and head coach Dan Protherough stressed: “We played really well at their place and were very unlucky to lose.

“If we can produce a high level of performance and play to our potential, then we’ve got the weapons in our armoury to beat Newbold.

“Whatever happens, I expect a titanic battle. But these are the type of games you really want to play in.

“It’s nice playing in games like last week’s 50-0 win over Moseley Oak where the game’s virtually wrapped up by half time. But it’s games against sides like Newbold that really get you motivated.

“I expect a great deal of noise to surround the game but we will turn that off and be fully focused.

“It’s one of those defining games that comes around every season and we could do with as much support as possible."

The Boars warmed up by making light of Moseley Oak, running in four first half tries.

Protherough said: “It was funny game because Moseley Oak had lots of youngsters in their side who were very fit and combative for the first quarter. But once we got into our rhythm, we were able to break them down."

Wingers Sam Bastock and Josh Holt scored tries along with No.8 Drew Harper, scrum half Will Harris, centre Ed Spalding and prop Ethan Priest.

Bromsgrove also picked up a penalty try for good measure, wile Will Harris and Adam Whiteman kicked the remaining points.

Kick-off for Saturday’s showdown with Newbold is at 2.15pm while there’s a disco taking place after the game.
