TABLE topping Bromsgrove breezed to a comprehensive 36-7 success at lowly Longton to boost their title chances in Midlands One West this term.

Head coach Dan Protherough admitted it wasn't one of the Bromsgrove's better performances and said: "It took quite a while for us to get off the bus!

"It's always a cold ground at Longton, but we steadily warmed to the task. We scored the first try but Longton replied with one of their own.

"However, we hit back with two tries just before half time to lead 19-7 at the break and that gave us the cushion to move forward.

"We then scored another three tries in the space of 10 minutes but from that point, we became sloppy.

"At one stage we were defending on our own line with 13 players, but we managed to keep Longton out".

Centre Ed Spalding snapped up a couple of tries with fellow centre Tom Millen adding another.

Loose head prop Ethan Priest, hooker James Gunter and flanker Chris Morgan also added their names to the scoresheet while scrum half Will Harris landed three conversions.

Bromsgrove entertain bottom side Malvern this Saturday at Finstall Park (2.15pm kick-off) and Protherough warned:

"We need to make sure that we don't get ahead of ourselves and not to look too far ahead. Our focus is purely on Malvern and nothing else. We cannot worry about what other sides do".
