A TALENTED Worcester teenager has secured gold medals in two different forms of combat and become a world champion.

Shay Ingram, 15, won his first junior national Brazilian jiu-jitsu competition held by Elite BJJ Events at Wolverhampton's Aldersley Leisure Village.

The Tudor Grange Academy pupil bettered that with gold in the junior world championships at the same venue which was also in the no gi over 68kg category for 14 and 15 year olds.

Ingram then switched his focus to wrestling and bagged British junior gold in Peterborough in the schoolboys' 76kg to 78kg category for 14 and 15 year olds.

He won his first fight 8-0 and his final 13-0 after training for 12 months in Wolverhampton.

His Brazilian jiu-jitsu preparation is closer to home with Checkmat Worcestershire coach Paul Severn at Trojan Free Fighters, Worcester.

Ingram now looks forward to the British championships next month in Solihull.

The young competitor is also building towards his first mixed martial arts (MMA) fight next August when he turns 16.

Ingram has trained in MMA since the age of six and over the last 12 months it has been six days a week in Worcester, Wolverhampton and Birmingham.

He was first introduced to Brazilian jiu-jitsu aged seven by the late John Jones, who ran Worcester Little Kickboxers classes at Perdiswell, and John Lenegan.

The no gi form of the martial art involves grappling without the traditional uniform.
