BROMSGROVE bowed out of their Birmingham League Division One campaign in a blaze of glory when beating champions Kidderminster by 21 runs.

Top order batsmen Ash Newfield with 45, Jayden Levitt 55 and in-form Ryan Pedley on 54 laid the foundation for a Bromsgrove total of 230 for seven.

In reply, Kidderminster were always in the hunt while their skipper Neil Pinner remained at the crease.

Former Worcester and Leicestershire player Pinner went onto reach 91 before being removed by Ash Newfield who finished with figures of four for 42.

From that point Kidderminster crumpled to 209 all out with four-and-half-overs still remaining.

Bromsgrove skipper Mark Evenson said: "It's a shame we couldn't have played like this every week.

"It was a bit of a free license with nothing riding on the game so the shackles were off and people seemed to respond to that.

"A score of 230 was always going to be a decent total but it was a case of getting Neil Pinner out - that was the big wicket.

Once he went, a bit of a procession followed.

"I was pleased we went out on the win, although some may see it as too little, too late.

"We've massively underachieved this season by finishing ninth, when you consider we were just outside the top four last time.

"It seemed that every time we got going, there would be something around the corner to slow the progression.

"Overall, it wasn't good enough and I've no doubt they'll be some player movement for next season.

"We need to get a sustained 11 for next season, but at the moment, we're missing a couple of pieces in the jigsaw."
