BROMSGROVE skipper Mark Evenson admitted he couldn't wait to see the back of this season after his side bagged enough bonus points against Barnards Green to ensure their Birmingham League status for next term.

Going into the game, Evenson said: "The only objective was to make sure we got the five bonus point we needed to survive.

"With that in mind, we had no option but to bowl first on what was a dust bowl of a wicket.

"But we duly got three bonus bowling points and from that moment, it was all about getting to 120 with the bat.

"When we reached that total, a massive cheer went out and Barnards Green must have been wondering what was going on."

Although achieving sufficient bonus points, Bromsgrove lost out by 73 runs.

Worcestershire's George Rhodes hit 57 while Adam Wiffen added 44 as Barnards Green posted a total of 204 for eight, Gareth Williams grabbed three for 19 while Ash Newfield claimed four for 42.

In reply, only Ryan Pedley with 56 made any real impression with the bat as Bromsgrove were bowled out for 131.

Evenson added: "At the start of the season, if you looked at the side we'd got on paper, it was probably the strongest for three or four years.

"But in truth, we've not been good enough and people need to start pulling their socks up.

"Last season, we won nine out of 11 games in the win-lose format. It was our bread and butter.

"This season, we've manged just one."

Bromsgrove round off the season this Saturday when they entertain champions Kidderminster at St Godwald's Park.
