IMPRESSIVE Alvechurch produced their best performance of the season so far as they swept aside Needham Market 3-0 in the Southern League Central Premier Division.

Goals from Luke Yates, Josh Ezewele and a Tom Turton penalty did the trick and delighted Church boss Ian Long said: "It was our best display for sometime. We played really well and Needham Market couldn't get near the ball at times.

"We should have scored more, especially as Josh March hit the woodwork twice.

"We did tire a bit in the closing minutes and they had a couple of chances, but it would have flattered them had they scored."

Long will be looking to take that form into this Saturday's attractive FA Cup clash at close rivals Stratford Town.

Church had Stratford watched ahead of the tie and Long added: "My scout was quite impressed. We won't be taking them lightly as the FA Cup game is a big priority for us. It's a game that both sides will believe they can win."

Church were due to face Bromsgrove Sporting in a League Cup tie ahead of the FA Cup clash when Long was expected to ring the changes.

But he stressed: "Everyone that comes in for the game with Bromsgrove will be given the chance to stake a claim for a place to face Stratford.

"Despite all the success we've had recently, the one thing that has been missing is an FA Cup run and we all know the benefits that it can bring.

"At the moment we've got competition for every place, which means nobody can afford to have a bad game otherwise they'll lose that place."

Long has also launched an appeal for Church supporters to make the trip to Stratford and get behind the side.

Although home gates have been modest, Church are blessed with a healthy away following and Long said: "Their support can make a big difference and I know the players appreciate it. We need all the support we can get."
