BROMSGROVE head coach Dan Protherough believes there's plenty of room for improvement despite his side starting their Midlands One West campaign in style with a cracking 31-20 success at Worcester RFC.

That was after Bromsgrove had blown Worcester away during the first half following a four-try spree.

But Protherough admitted: "We allowed Worcester to ruffle our feathers in the second half and we were never able to put ourselves out of sight.

"We also had a bit of luck as Worcester were awarded a number of penalties which they could have slotted over, but chose not to take.

"Our discipline is something that we need to work upon, because we don't want to be giving sides momentum to get back into the game.

"As a result, we were never able to kill off Worcester's hope of getting back into the game."

Inside centre Ed Spalding snapped up a couple of first half tries while No.8 Drew Harper and last season's Colts skipper Kai Douglas also breached Worcester's defence before half-time.

Scrum half Will Harris kicked a couple of conversions to put Bromsgrove 24-13 in front by the break.

A second-half try from second row Sam Knott, converted by Harris, effectively sealed the points.

Bromsgrove are back in action this Friday night when they make the short trip to local rivals Droitwich which is expected to prove a lively confrontation.

Droitwich have a number of former Bromsgrove players in their ranks having obtained promotion last season.

Protherough said: "It's going to be a hotly contested local derby and we have to make sure that we deliver."
