BUSY Bromsgrove Sporting boss Paul Smith has completed a hat-trick of key signings after snapping up midfield man Liam Holt from Midland League title rivals Sporting Khalsa.

Holt arrives at the Rouslers hard on the heels of recent captures Drew Canavan from Stourbridge and Stafford Rangers hitman Richard Gregory.

Highly rated Holt is seen as a ready made replacement for injury stricken Liam Spink who has been ruled out for the remainder of the season after breaking a bone in his leg when playing against Nuneaton Town.

Smith said: "Liam Holt has played twice against us this season, both in the league and the FA Vase when he was outstanding on each occasion.

"When Liam Spink got injured, Liam Holt was my first target and I would have gone in earlier for him, but I didn't out of respect for their manager Ian Rowe.

"By signing Liam, I hope it sends out a big signal of intent to everyone, especially on the back of other recent recruits.

"I must admit, Liam's arrival has set the place buzzing and given everyone at Bromsgrove Sporting a real fillip."

But Holt was made to wait for his Sporting debut after Saturday's proposed trip to Lye Town was called off.

Smith revealed: "I think I was the only person in the club who was happy that the game was off, because I was in Disneyland Paris at the time.

"I was delighted, because it meant I hadn't missed the game while everyone else was left disappointed".

But they'll be no let up for Smith and his squad over the Christmas period.

Smith has warned his players there can be no slip-up when Bromsgrove Sporting entertain rock bottom Shrewsbury side Shawbury United this Saturday in a Midland League match.

They follow up with two games against groundshare rivals Worcester City which will attract huge interest.

The sides meet on Boxing Day for a 3pm kick-off. The pair clash again on New year's Day, also at 3pm when a bumper crowd is expected on both occasions.
