WESTACRE Middle School pupil Megan Skillern took on the best in the country and won a silver medal at the British Schools Championships.

The student at Droitwich Spa Judo Kan was in good form at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield.

In her first contest she defeated her opponent from Coppull St Johns School in a hard fought three-minute contest that went to time.

She made a strong start and an early score saw her progress to round two, where she took on an opponent from Welsh School Ysgol Gyfun Bro Myrddin.

Megan managed to turn her opponent over on the ground very early into the contest and held her down for Ippon to move into the final.

In her final contest, she demonstrated great technique to see off a rival from Castle Hill Primary and take the silver.

Over 700 competitors fought to earn a place in the championships.

A spokesperson for the club said: “It’s a major achievement for anyone to qualify for the British championships and we, as a club, are incredibly proud of Megan’s accomplishments and this was one of her best performances to date.”
