A WOMAN sobbed in court as she admitted child cruelty after breaking a girl’s leg.
Amy Chandler, 27, of Old Coach Road, Droitwich, broke down in tears when she admitted a single count of child cruelty as she appeared at Worcester Crown Court on Wednesday.
The details of the charge were that she ‘wilfully ill-treated the child in a manner likely to cause unnecessary suffering or injury to health', causing her a right leg metaphyseal fracture.
The case was prosecuted by Simon Phillips. Chandler was represented by Jason Aris.
Mr Aris said his client was of previous good character and asked the case to be adjourned for a pre-sentence report to be prepared by the probation service.
He said: “This is case that perhaps doesn’t cross the custody threshold bearing in mind all of the particular circumstances.”
Recorder Christopher Millington QC said he did not wish to express any views on the case as he would not be sentencing Chandler himself.
The sentencing hearing was adjourned until September 2 at Worcester Crown Court to allow the preparation of the report. Chandler was granted unconditional bail until that date.
