PUPILS and staff at a city school have virtually come together to release a special heartwarming video.

The video features a rendition of Somewhere Over The Rainbow and rainbow artwork created by the pupils of New College Worcester.

The video is the brainchild of Jo Christie, the head of music at the Whittington Road-based school which is for young people aged 11 to 19-year-olds who are blind or vision impaired.

The teacher said the musical idea was a way to boost morale, and share positivity.

"With the rainbow being used at the moment as a symbol of hope and thanks for all of the people caring for us, I thought it would be lovely for us to record our own version of ‘Over The Rainbow’ - with the rainbow, for us also being a symbol of joining us together no matter how physically apart we currently are," she said.

"I already had a choir version of the sheet music and so along with our fabulous peripatetic music team, put together the instrumental tracks and vocal guide tracks for people to record to.”

Mrs Christie edited a total of 36 tracks sent in and merged them together with the instrumental tracks to form the collective group song.

All areas of the school are represented in the final recording; students, teaching staff, support staff, care staff, the senior leadership team, governors and relatives.

The video was released on the school's Youtube page recently, and has already received more than 1,000 views.
