A FAMILY of eight have been left stranded in Cyprus after an airline cancelled all its flights.

The Robinsons from Worcester are unable to return home from their holiday in Ayia Napa after easyjet cancelled their flights home.

Gail 70, Karen 49, Georgina 28, Jessica 28, Daisy 14, Sophie 10, Theo, 8 and Ralph, three are all homeless and having to seek refuge in a friend's home on the Greek island.

Karen Robinson said: “We received an email saying we are sorry but your flight has been cancelled.

“ We were given options for a refund or to change our flight via manage my booking but no flights are available to choose from.

“ This is the only email we have received. I rang the British consulate who said it is up to the airline to get us home so I needed to speak directly to them. I have rang the airline twice and had an hour wait which both times ended up in the phone being hung up.

“We have had no further information or options. Our travel insurance doesn’t cover anything except medical. The British consulate said they have received a high volume of calls and I need to keep checking the government website but they confirmed there are no rescue flights planned yet.”

Worcester News:

“Luckily we have friends in Ayia Napa so we have somewhere to sleep. Gail is extremely upset as her husband has had a double heart bypass recently and he was originally booked to come with us but couldn’t come so she is very worried and wants to get back to him. We are just so frustrated with the lack of contact from easyJet and not knowing how long we will be here for. The only flights that seem available have got one or two stops so we are so worried about travelling and being stuck somewhere else. We are just very anxious about what’s going to happen next.”

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office has advised against all but essential travel to the Republic of Cyprus and recommends that British nationals that wish to leave Cyprus contact their travel operator to make arrangements to do so as soon as possible.

It says this is in response to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic and in line with controls and restrictions imposed by the Cypriot authorities. They also advise Britons in Cyprus to follow the advice of the Cypriot authorities, which includes leaving their tourist accommodation by March 21.
