A SCHOOL near Worcester is celebrating after inspectors gave it a good review.

The River School, in Fernhill Heath, was inspected by the Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI) and inspectors said pupils had a positive approach to learning and all made good progress.

The pupils were also said to have good communication skills, excellent self-esteem and confidence and a 'have a go' attitude.

Inspectors said pupils didn't always know how to improve their work - which the school said it was targetting.

The report also said that pupils at the Christian school had empathy and were respectful and accepting of those with different backgrounds but that younger pupils had an 'undeveloped' understanding of other faiths in Britain.

Adrian Parsonage, headteacher at The River School, said: “We are absolutely delighted with the report which reflects the commitment and professionalism of staff, the support of parents and the character of the pupils. We are particularly proud of how our young people combine an excellent attitude to their academic studies alongside their Christian values.

"We are already addressing the two recommendations in the report; consistency of pupils knowing their targets and a greater understanding of other beliefs in Primary. To sum up, we are proud of our community and excited about the future of our growing school.”

ISI is a Department of Education approved inspection body for members of the Independent Schools Council.
