NEW homes have been green-lighted to be built in a village.

Planning permission was granted by Malvern Hills District Council in May for 99 homes.

Helen Chard, land and planning director at Taylor Wimpey West Midlands said: “We are delighted to have received planning approval for our latest site in Kempsey.

“The development will provide much needed homes, including affordable housing, and investment for the local community.

“Over 900 people in the area, through the Kempsey Neighbourhood Plan referendum held in October 2017, have supported the plans for a new community centre and sports fields, so we’re proud to be able to deliver this and make a difference in the community. “We will also ensure that this latest development positively contributes to the local community by providing it with high-quality facilities and transport infrastructure.”

The development, which will contain a series of two, three and four-bedroom homes and are designed to suit a variety of needs, from first time buyers to families.

Residents will benefit from 15 acres of land for sports, recreation and community facilities.

Duncan Rudge, planning services manager at Malvern Hills District Council, said: “This new development of 99 dwellings, together with the provision of new sports pitches, community hall/ clubhouse and the developer’s investment in off-site infrastructure improvements, will provide much-needed new homes as well as modern purpose built sports and recreation facilities. Although housing in this location was contrary to the South Worcestershire Development Plan, the scheme had the support of the more recently adopted Kempsey Neighbourhood Plan, produced by Kempsey Parish Council, which facilitated this mixed-use scheme for the long term benefit of the wider community."

Construction on the site is scheduled to start in September 2019.
