HEARING the calls for a Labour candidate for city council to stand down over liking a photo of a topless woman on Twitter is, in the current climate, not a surprise.

Andy Graham, who is standing for Warndon Parish North, was revealed to have 'liked' the tweet in February this year, despite claiming he had not used the account for over a year.

As with the case of Emmerdale actress Shila Iqbal, who was dropped from the show after a series of racist tweets from 2013 were unearthed, this is a classic case of someone's social media past coming back to bite them.

In any public facing role, you must be vigilant and always take into account what might be made public and how it might affect your career.

In his defence, Mr Graham said: “I have not been active on Twitter for more than a year.

"I have neither retweeted nor liked this or indeed any other post during that period."

As we have seen with so many public figures, old tweets can come back to haunt you, and whether Mr Graham's account was hacked or not, this story should serve as a warning to us all to be a bit smarter about using Twitter.
