A PRIMARY school has been nominated for a Worcestershire Education Award following a parent praising the headteacher for making “big improvements.”
Dines Green Community Academy, which joined the Mercian Educational Trust in December 2018, has been nominated for Primary School of the Year.
Andrew Morley, headteacher from the school in Tudor Way, Worcester, said: “We are all delighted to be nominated. A lot of hard work, enthusiasm and care has gone into our fantastic school’s journey out of special measures."
"The credit for our nomination must go to my incredible staff team who do so much every single day to care for and educate our amazing children.”
Mr Morley, 43, has been at the school for just under a year and says he is “passionate about the school and its community.”
Mr Morley added: “The school has had some challenging times recently, particularly going into special measures in February 2017, but at its core Dines Green is a community school which has always cared for each and every one of its children and has high expectations of them all.
“Our values - Respect, Resilience, Reflection, Curiosity, Empathy and Honesty are key to this and we celebrate them daily.
“There have been lots of little changes behind the scenes, but we have really just focussed on getting the basics right. We listen to our community and are always there for them – supporting families as well as just the children through our brilliant teaching and pastoral teams.
"Reading, writing and maths are the keys to a successful education, and we have focussed on getting these basics right.”
Claire Ford, a parent who praised the school’s improvement since Mr Morley took on the role as head, said: “Employing Mr Morley was the best thing the school ever did. The school has made big improvements and are due to make further changes. The school has listened to the parents voice and made the relevant changes suggested by us.”
