MOTORISTS have been urged to slow down when approaching Worcester Bridge after a swan died after being hit by a car.

A swan was found on the pavement in South Parade after it was hit and killed by a car driving across Worcester Bridge yesterday morning (March 27).

Marilyn McCarthy, who volunteers for The Swan Food Project, said it was the second swan to have been hit by a car and the third to be found injured in the city in the last week.

A swan struggling with a broken wing – believed to have been caused after being hit by a car – was found outside the old Rectifying House in South Parade last Friday (March 22) and has not been seen since.

Highways bosses at Worcestershire County Council had been contacted about the possibility of enforcing a 20 miles per hour speed limit across the bridge but the call was rejected.
