A LECTURER who “always goes that extra mile” has been nominated for a Worcestershire Education Award.

Amanda McCully, a senior lecturer in the Early Years Foundation Degree at the University of Worcester, has been nominated for the Unsung Hero Award.

Ms McCully, aged 58, said: “I am surprised and shocked to have been nominated. The other lecturers work the same way and just as hard.

“I love working, and watching the students develop and progress is what I enjoy most. Every person is a pool of talent to be tapped into to find their strengths to develop.”

Ms McCully has been a lecturer at the university for two years, however she has been in the teaching profession since 1986.

“I have a lot of ex-students out there," she said. "A few have come back to visit me and tell me how they have got on.”

Ms McCully says she aims to give the students their formative feedback quickly, adding: “Most of the students work full time and study, therefore their time is limited. I feel it is important to give them their feedback quickly.”

Julia Stockley, 27, a university student who nominated Ms McCully, said: “Mandy should win this award as she is the most dedicated and hardworking lecturer I have met. She is brilliant and always goes that extra mile – I cannot praise her enough.

“Mandy is always happy, and I have never seen her down or quiet. She is a motivated and positive tutor that wants you to achieve in everything you do. She is a credit to Worcester University and I would like her to be recognised for her ability."

Julia added: “She is a popular tutor that every person in the group appreciates. Her knowledge on early years studies is remarkable.”

The April 18 deadline is approaching for nominations for the Worcestershire Education Awards.

All nominees will be considered as a potential finalist, with that shortlist chosen by a panel of judges. Winners will be announced during an awards ceremony at the University Arena in Worcester on June 20.
