SIR – I read with great sadness regarding the proposal to allow Fortis to build a cluster of new affordable housing on a popular dog walking site in St John’s.

May I ask: Affordable housing?

For whom exactly? Fortis won’t plan to sell the properties as they are a housing association.

So why saying affordable housing is a bit of misleading quotation as people may see that as a way of a cheap property, without realising they’ll have to bid for it first.

There is sure enough ongoing to be an increase in traffic during the build with access in that area not very good at the best of times with a narrow road being and a street being the only way to get to the proposed building site, with cars being parked on every side of the street, with just enough space to allow cars through, so how on earth they’ll get construction traffic through beats me.

The site backs on to St John’s Cemetery, which will be a severe inconvenience to those who wish to mourn the deceased in quiet, only to have the peace disturbed by building works. Have the council considered these factors? No, I very much doubt it.
