A SEVEN-year-old has had her hair cut off to donate towards a charity who make wigs for young people who have lost their hair through cancer.

Instead of having her ears pierced for her seventh birthday, Charlotte Harris chosen to have eight inches cut off her hair to raise awareness and money for the Little Princess Trust, who provide free hair wigs to young people, up to the age of 24, who have lost their own hair through cancer treatment or other conditions.

Mum of Charlotte, Jessica Harris said: “I am so proud of Charlotte – no words can describe how proud I feel.

“Charlotte has started to become more aware of others in the world. She noticed a little girl with no hair at school that has suffered with cancer and it broke her heart. Charlotte came home from school one day and said ‘Mummy, my friend doesn’t have any hair. Can I give her mine?’

“I loved her hair before - Charlotte has always had long mermaid blonde hair and she’s only ever known to have long hair.”

Charlotte set a goal on February 1 to raise £100 for charity. This was quickly matched and so far, she has raised £604.

Mrs Harris, aged 38 said: “What make it so special is that Charlotte does not understand how big this is and the concept of raising £600.

“She is such a loving girl and very selfless. She has done all that a seven-year-old can do and this has been her way of helping others.

“It had become Charlotte’s dream to cut all her long hair off on her seventh birthday. I don’t want Charlotte to live in a world where we don’t look out for each other, not just the people close by her but anybody who needs help.”

Charlotte had her hair cut off on Thursday, February 18.

Mrs Harris added: “When Charlotte walked into school Friday morning, she was terrified of everyone looking at her new hair style as she hates any form of attention. The thing is, she didn’t do it for herself, she did it to help others.”
