PROUD parents have turned out in droves to enter their kids in this year's Worcester News Baby of the Year.

Ten-month-old Sophia Elizabeth Emmerson-Smith has been entered into the competition by her mum, Sarah Emmerson, aged 38.

The mum-of-two said: “We get so many comments on how pretty Sophia is, so I thought it would be nice for the fun of it to enter her and see how we get on. She is a smiley and happy baby so hopefully she will show this on camera.”

Kimberley Acheson, aged 23, has entered the competition for the first time with her one-year-old daughter, Ellie-Rose.

She said: “Ellie-Rose is cute, as she is my daughter I am going to think that. All my nieces and nephews have entered the competition before so I thought we should.”

Mum-of-seven, Laura Bateman, has entered Xander, who is 19 weeks old for Baby of the Year. Mrs Bateman has entered all of her children into the competition. Her only daughter, Isla, won the 0-3 months category two years ago.

Mrs Bateman, aged 31, said: “We enter to get the children’s photographs and give them to family members. The little ones don’t have many photographs taken other than at school, so it is nice to have them done. We have had a few of our children that have made it into the top 10.”

Sarah Williams, 30, who has entered her 10 month old son Thomas, said: “Thomas has a super cheeky smile. It would be nice to get him into the paper and have a nice keepsake for him for when he is older.”

Molly Humphries has entered six-month-old Theo after a family member recommended the competition.

The 20-year-old said: “Everyone tells me Theo is gorgeous and he is very photogenic. It would be nice for people to vote and see what I see in him.”

Sarah Bevan, promotions manager at the Worcester News, said: “Once again we are delighted to be running our annual Baby of the Year competition. Please come along to The Pod in Friary Walk, Crowngate - we are here all week until Saturday from 10am to 4pm. Entry is completely free. The supplement with all the photos in will be published at the beginning of April and then you get the chance to vote for your favourites.”
