WILL the Bonfire Radicals light your fire with a feast of folk and world music sounds?

Find out with a gig at Worcester’s Henry Sandon Hall, this March, when the Bonfires are set to bring their critically-acclaimed magic from Birmingham to thrill a local audience.

A spokesman said: “One of the most exciting and eclectic groups on the folk/world scene, the Bonfire Radicals have emerged with a fresh approach to traditional tunes and a host of creative original material.

“The six-piece band comprises Michelle Holloway (recorders, voice), Sarah Farmer (violin, voice), Katie Stevens (clarinets, kaval, voice), Shankara Andy Bole (eclectic 12-string), Ilias Lintzos (drums, voice) and Pete Churchill (bass guitar).”

The spokesman added: “They weave together raucous woodwind, delicate vocals, progressive violin, hard hitting bass, psychedelic electric guitar and percussive beats.

“Drawing on their eclectic backgrounds, the band chart many divergent influences upon their sound: medieval polyphony, jazz tinged swing, Canterbury sound, klezmer and all points in between.”

The combo is known for lively live performances.

The spokesman added: “Known for their highly-spirited stage presence, the Bonfire Radicals’ own enthusiasm for their music is undeniable.

“You won’t want to miss this highly-spirited, at times gloriously chaotic live stage show.”

The Bonfire Radicals have certainly had their fair share of critical acclaim.

Songlines Magazine said they were “raucous and eclectic, sheer merriment in a gorgeous set of ideas and influences, guaranteed to leave you smiling from ear to ear”.

And a critic for Fatea Magazine said they were: “Quite staggeringly special.”

The gig at Henry’s will be a Shindig Worcestershire event.

The performance takes place on Friday, March 1, from 7.30pm. For tickets, call the box office on 01905 611427 or go to worcesterlive.co.uk
