IT has been fantastic to see so many nominations pouring in for this year’s Worcestershire Education Awards.

We’ve received around five nominations a day since the competition was officially launched last month, and each person or education establishment out forward for an award has such an inspiring story.

Today, our spotlight falls on St Bede’s Catholic Middle School in Redditch, which is in the running for Primary School of the Year, and its headteacher, Lloyd Roberts, who has been nominated for the Headteacher of the Year crown.

Mr Roberts’ story is particularly inspiring because he has become a successful headteacher despite having a heart condition which has seen him undergo open heart surgery four times since childhood. While the school has been praised for the superb pastoral care given to pupils and the way the team responds to any criticism with positive action.
