The build project, which began in November last year, is comfortably ahead of schedule. The entire 80 tonne steel frame is now complete and the concrete ground and first floors are now in place. This month will see the continuation of work on the external skin of the building and the roof.

Kate Brunt, CEO of the Rivers Academy said: “The building of this fantastic new school marks the start of a new era. We promise to offer the very best in primary education within the walls of this building, based on many years of experience at our other ‘good’ and ‘outstanding’ schools across Worcestershire.

“We were delighted to receive so many applications for preschool and reception this September and meeting our first cohort of pupils is an incredibly exciting prospect.”

The visiting children, from St Clement’s Primary, Northwick Manor Primary and Cranham Primary, also buried a time capsule on site. It included a variety of items for children of the future to look back upon, including work that has been produced by the children across all Rivers schools, recent newspaper clippings and other items such as school badges and ties.

Oliver and Olivia from Northwick Manor Primary said:

“It is so exciting to see the new school being built. We wonder how long it will be before the time capsule gets discovered and what school life will be like for the children of the future.”

Up to 60 reception children will be starting at NWPA in September and up to 26 in preschool. The brand new, ultra-modern school building will utilise the latest education-specific design ideas and technology. Landscaped grounds will include a year-round astroturf sports field as well as a large and well-established forest school area. An astro-turf sports field will enable children to engage in outdoor activities all year round and a fully functioning kitchen will allow delicious fresh food to be prepared and cooked by the Trust.
