Dear Editor

Judging by the tone of the online comments re Grace Walton's article "Why does our society have so much hate towards vegans?" (WN 28.1.19) she hit the nail on the head.

We seem to press guilt buttons just by mentioning we're vegan. We don't have to tell others they should be. They hear that without us saying anything more. Perhaps it's their own conscience they're hearing. Now they can see people who are healthily eating a vegan diet it rather undermines

their insistence that humans need to consume animal products. I used to like them too but when I discovered how, on the whole, the animals are treated my taste wasn't important enough to ignore my new knowledge. Now that we have so many products that make it easy to veganize the meals we've always eaten, no-one has to feel they're missing out. I certainly don't.

Yours sincerely

Roberta Balfour
