THE search is on for new players to join a Quidditch team.

The Worcester Wraiths Quidditch Club are looking for teammates.

The team made their first appearance at the University of Worcester’s Refreshers Fair on Tuesday, January 22 where they were recruiting for their first practice that will take place on Saturday, February 2.

Quidditch is a rugby-dodgeball hybrid and is a growing sport worldwide.

There are more than 50 teams across the UK and teams compete in national and international tournaments, the largest of which is the Quidditch World Cup, held in Italy last year.

Worcester has played host to Quidditch events in the past and Worcestershire based Genevieve Tyrrell, events director at QuidditchUK, has taken up the challenge of bringing Quidditch back to Worcester in the form of a new team.

Quidditch is a fully mixed-gender, full contact sport and is open to anyone aged 17 and over who wants to get involved.

The game is loosely based on the sport played by characters in the popular Harry Potter series and has grown in popularity.

Worcester Wraith’s first practice will take place at no charge at 12pm on Saturday, February 2 at Waverley Street Park, also known as Cherry Orchard Nature Reserve.
