CHARITIES received £2,250 each during an assembly at The Downs Malvern after the school raised the money during their Christmas Fayre.

Representatives from What Makes You Different Makes You Beautiful (WMYDMYB) and Hope and Homes for Children attended the school's Celebration Assembly to receive cheques. The Christmas Fayre was organised by a team of parents led by Lucy Hawkins.

Based in Malvern, WMYDMYB was founded in 2013 by Kim Philpotts and supports children who have disabilities, additional needs and life-limiting illnesses, and their families.

Hope and Homes for Children aims to end the institutionalised care of kids by ensuring they live with families rather than in orphanages.

Downs head Alastair Cook said: “The whole community here – parents, children and staff – are thrilled to organise a wide-variety of events throughout the year that will be of great benefit, not just to these two remarkable charities, but to 10 others - local, national and international."

He added: "This work was praised in our recent excellent inspection report in which the inspectors wrote ‘Pupils identify strongly with their school community and those around them. Pupils actively involve themselves in supporting local and global charities’.”
