PUB Spy this week paid a long overdue visit to the city’s music bar, Paradiddles, in Sidbury.

I would describe this place as a quirky café during the day, but a music hotspot at night.

From my understanding, Paradiddles is heavily involved in the community by supporting local artists.

The music bar has a huge emphasis on gigs and event nights and can provide an 85-capacity venue for bands and musicians.

Upon arrival, I noticed there were CD albums from local artists for sale.

With solely good vibes being shown during my visit, it seems the perfect place to meet up with your friends, have a drink and a bite to eat.

Paradiddles is a community hub, with gigs taking place at least two to three times a week, showcasing new local artists as well as established bands.

When I was handed a menu I was pleasantly surprised to discover it was an old CD case which had been transformed. I had never seen that before, it was a quirky addition to the venue.

Paradiddles offers a basic food menu where customers have a choice of stone baked pizzas with a variety of toppings.

There is a vegan, veggie or meat option. It was a no brainer for me really – I ordered the meat pizza which included ham, mozzarella cheese, mushrooms, olives, basil, red onion and its very own Paradiddles Sauce.

There was an option to have a personal pizza, for £6, or to share for £12. On this occasion I was dining alone for my lunch, or else I may have been persuaded to share a pizza.

Although I know it is an unusual combination to go with pizza, I ordered an oat milk latte for £2.60, as I felt like I needed a pick-me-up to get me through the day.

The food took a little longer than expected to come out, however the pizzas are made fresh to order in a stone cooked oven. The waitress apologised and explained that as it was the first meal of the day, it takes longer for the oven to warm up.

She generously offered me a free slice of cake as an apology for the wait. I took a slice of Rocky Road with me to go, which I later had at work – it was delicious.

Paradiddles is certainly not stingy with its servings, as when my pizza arrived it had an enormous heaping of toppings.

The customer service was excellent. The atmosphere allows you to chill out and not feel obliged to leave in a hurry, like some places who expect you to have been gone within the hour.

There was a dog at the other end of the bar, which the waitress asked if I am fine with. I understand why some people would prefer pets not being there for hygiene reasons, however, being the animal lover I am, I had no problem.

According to Paradiddles website, the music bar hosts an array of events from community social group meetings, workshops and poetry readings.

I will look forward to returning to this gem of a place and in the future trying out the events it has on offer.
