Fort Royal Community Primary School took home Primary School of the Year in the 2018 Worcestershire Education Awards, and headteacher Ed Francis has reflected on the last six months for the school, saying: “We have had a good year, we have a lovely school with a really wide range of pupils and it was great to win the award last year.

“We make sure we work with not just the pupils but with their families too, we have a family support worker who also runs workshops for parents.

“A child with a disability needs much more care and support and we are quite proud of the work we do with helping parents and pupils.”

Mr Francis also commented on the school’s “lovely grounds” and again thanked parents for their support, saying: “It is a partnership, working in partnership with the parents is so important because having a disabled child is a very difficult job.”

In its 2016 Ofsted report, inspectors said: “Fort Royal is a warm and welcoming place. Classrooms are bright and well organised.

“Frequent use is made of the space outside the classrooms and the extensive grounds – pupils have waterproofs and wellies so that they are able to play and learn outside in wet weather.”

The deadline for nominations is April 18. Finalists are chosen by a panel of judges and winners are announced during an awards ceremony at the University Arena on June 20.
