POLICE in Worcestershire have seized more than £20,000 from an ‘organised criminal gang’ over a busy weekend for the force.

Meanwhile stolen cars have also been recovered, one brought to a stop using a stinger, during unconnected incidents following a busy few days for West Mercia’s patrol units.

A spokesman for West Mercia’s Operations Patrol Unit said on Friday: “Busy end to the shift yesterday - intelligence led stop at Hopwood. Nothing better than taking over £20k from organised criminal gangs and disrupting their activity. One in custody.”

Officers from West Mercia’s OPU also located the stolen Audi RS3 in Evesham on Saturday. Officers from the unit said the car had been stolen in a burglary in Wiltshire after after Worcestershire officers were given the heads up by Gloucestershire Roads Police.

The unit has also revealed that they pursued an Audi Quattro also stolen in a burglary in Worcester last week. It was brought to a stop using a stinger.

A spokesman for OPU Worcestershire said: “The offender has been charged and remanded to court having been dealt with for theft, disqualified driving, no insurance and bail offences.”

The male was arrested in possession of a number of medals. The items are believed to have been stolen overnight somewhere between Kidderminster and Ross on Wye.

Items seized include medals from the Dance Teachers Association (Great Britain). The name on the medals is E.Robson, dated 1963.
