A PRISONER charged with the attempted murder of a woman is expected to enter pleas at a hearing later this month.

David Bieber, also known as Nathan Coleman, was supposed to appear at Worcester Crown Court via videolink from HMP Wakefield on Friday.

However, technical problems with the link meant he could not appear at the hearing.

The 52-year-old is charged with the attempted murder of Alison Smith, wounding her with intent to do grievous bodily harm, and unauthorised possession in prison of knife or offensive weapon (a pronged metal bar).

The charges relate to an incident in HMP Long Lartin, South Littleton, Evesham, on October 10, 2017.

The case was prosecuted by Paul Whitfield and Bieber was represented by Matthew McDonagh who appeared via a videolink from Southwark.

The case was adjourned for a plea and trial preparation hearing on Friday, January 18.

Bieber remains in custody.
