THE school has had a lot of fun this week participating in activities all in aid of raising vital funds for charity.

Currently, an outstanding £1,480 has been raised for Children in Need, with more donations coming in.

Kate Wilcock, aged 40, headteacher at Pitmaston Primary School said: “We had Pudsey visit for the first time – we have always wanted Pudsey to come here so the children were excited.

“The sponge splat was a big hit. The senior leadership team all lined up, while everyone had two shots for £1. When it got to the older year groups, the children were so enthusiast launching the sponges, it was hilarious. It was very cold and very wet, but worth every bit to raise money.

“Parents have been so generous, and we are so thrilled with the amount of money we have raised.”

I met with a few of the students who have been nominated to be part of the Pupil’s Leadership Team, also known as ‘Learning Detectives’. These students have additional responsibilities within the school and they are called up to complete different tasks, as well as be a role model and promote good behaviour to other children.

After speaking to some of the pupil’s leaders, it was heart-warming to see how caring the children are. Already at the age of seven, the youngest girl I spoke to – Lauren Wood, told me the importance of Children in Need.

Imogen Jones, aged 11, said: “We loved throwing sponges at the teachers and it was fun to wear our own clothes with something about Pudsey on.”

Mrs Phillpots, the school administrator said: “It was an amazing day. A lot of people chipped in to help out. When we found out how much we have raised we could not believe it."

There was an array of activities put on by the school, such as ‘sponge the teacher’ where the children threw a wet sponge on the senior leadership team. This seemed to be the student’s favourite part of the event. This alone raised £400.

There was a paper airplane competition where the students had to create their own. The winner, whose plane flew the furthest, was prized with a hug from Pudsey and a photograph.

There was a cake sale that raised a school record of £306.
